New Mailbox owner’s transformation plans backed

Plans by the new owner of the Mailbox in Birmingham city centre to revitalise the shopping and leisure destination have been backed.The building in Commercial Street was acquired by M7 Real Estate from Brockton and Milligan in December 2019.The proposals, which have now been approved by Birmingham City Council, include remodeling Level One, creating new office space, supported by other uses.They will also see the creation of a more sustainable mix of service-led retail on Level Two such as ‘grab-and-go’ food outlets and health and beauty clinicsThe existing lettable retail floorspace is spread across two levels with about 36,418 sq ft on Level One and 90,000 sq ft on Level Two.Current vacancy rate across both levels of 37.5 per cent after the likes of Authentic / Flint & Flint / ILite / Swarovski/ LK Bennett / Tom’s Kitchen / Daniel Footwear pulled out.
